Local Medical Committees (LMCs) are the statutory representative bodies for GPs.  They are independent of NHS England and ICBs and are the local voice of General Practice.  There are two LMCs covering Essex, and the number of GP representative members is based on the registered patient population in each constituency area.  Further information on being an LMC member can be found on the LMC website:

Membership – Essex LMC

The nomination and election processes will be conducted entirely via the new LMC portal.  Details of how to register on the portal have been shared with practices over the past few months, both by e-mail and also via the LMC newsletter.  Only GPs who are registered on the portal will be eligible to stand, nominate colleagues and vote.  If you have not yet registered, you can do so here:  GP Registration

Even if you are not intending to seek nomination, it is still important to register.  Nominations are required to be supported by two GPs working in the constituency.  You may therefore be selected by a colleague to second their nomination, and you will also need to be registered in order to vote.

In addition to facilitating the nomination/election processes, the portal will also provide:-

  • 24/7 access to LMC resources for registered users
  • An AI Knowledge Bot function – LIA (LMC Intelligent Assistant)
  • A single source of practice, PCN and GP constituent data for LMC use

(Please note that access to information and resources is not yet available. The portal is being rolled out in phases, with features and functionality being introduced progressively).

Nominations will open on Monday, 9th February and will close on Friday, 27th February 2026.  Please look out for e-mails from the LMC office and notifications via the portal, which will confirm when nominations open.

Any questions regarding LMC membership, the nomination/election process or registering on the portal should be addressed to events@essexlmc.org.uk
