EMIS postpones dispensing module charge, as pressure mounts on NHSE

EMIS has postponed the introduction of the dispensing module user charge from 1 April, following representations by the DDA. The DDA met with EMIS to discuss the new charge to be implemented following the withdrawal of NHS funding for this service from 1 April. Urgent Concerns Regarding EMIS Web Dispensing Module Charges for the attention of Dispensing Practices – BMA Letter

The BMA has written to Dr Amanda Doyle, National Director for Primary Care and Community Services for NHS England, regarding urgent concerns surrounding the  EMIS Web Dispensing Module Charges for Dispensing Practices.

Under the existing arrangement, NHS England has met the monthly charge for the EMIS Web dispensing module. This will cease on 1 April 2026.

As a result, rural and remote GP practices who undertake vital dispensing services to their patients will now be required to absorb this cost directly. We understand, though this has not been formally confirmed, that the proposed charge will be £0.25 per registered patient.

For some practices, this would represent a significant and immediate financial impact.
