Applications to Close Lists or Temporarily Halt New Patient Registrations

In February 2016 the LMC produced guidance for practices considering the options of applying to formally close their list or temporarily halting new patient registrations as a means of managing their workload to ensure they can continue to provide a safe, accessible and quality service to their existing patients.

The guidance was circulated to all practices in Essex but recently the LMC office has received a growing number of enquiries on this matter. In some instances, practices are under the impression that if they either apply to formally close their list or temporarily halt new patient registrations, that they will no longer be eligible to participate in enhanced service SLAs. This is not the case and the LMC is not aware of any contractual sanctions as a result of such action.
