Dr Brian Balmer
Dr Balmer is the Chief Executive of the Essex Local Medical Committees (LMCs), who represent the 1000 Essex GPs. His role includes personal and professional support to GPs and practices, as well as the promotion of GP interests and aspirations to the PCOs and other bodies.
Past successes include:
- Ballots for GP representation on PCO Boards
- A violent patients' scheme in South Essex
- An Essex-wide appraisal scheme for GPs
- All Essex enhanced services agreement
Prior to this position, Brian was a Health Authority Medical Advisor/Director in Essex and gained an MBA in 1996. He was a GP in East London for seven years and is a graduate of the University of Manchester. This may explain why football remains an abiding passion!
He is also a Fellow of the Health and Social Services Institute of the University of Essex, member of the General Practitioners Committee (GPC) and is currently working part-time as a Project Director for GP recruitment and retention for the Essex Workforce Development Confederation.
